God wants to empower you to do good works and overcome evil. But He's not going to give you power if you can't be trusted with it, and you can't be trusted with it if it's going to cause pride, or if you're going to abuse the power. The enemy uses thoughts of vengeance in order to make you untrustworthy precisely so that God will not give you power, because the last thing the enemy wants is an army of believers empowered to destroy his plans.
