It's not enough to rebuke negative thoughts and behaviors, we have to replace them with something positive. Bad habits have to be replaced with good habits, bad thoughts have to be replaced with positive thoughts, and the enemy's lies have to be replaced with God's truth. Otherwise, you're just leaving a vacuum to be filled by the very thing you're trying to get rid of. Jesus talks about this in Matthew, when he says "“When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first." So to prevent against that, you have to make sure that the space you are clearing out is not left empty, but is replaced with God, His Word, and His promises.
