The verse “you have not because you ask not,” which is in the book of James, gets misinterpreted a lot because, as with a lot of verses in the Bible, people just read the part they like and they don't read the rest. What it actually says is that you have not because you ask not, AND when you do ask, you're asking to fulfill your own lusts. In other words, you're not asking for it because God has placed it on your heart to ask for it. You're not asking for money because you want to start an orphanage, or because you want to feed the poor. You're not doing it because you want to be a blessing to others in your community or anything like that. You're just doing it because you want to satisfy yourself.
