Why Has God Forsaken Me? A Testimony in Progress

Scripture Verse:

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9. In times of struggle, it’s natural to ask, “Why has God forsaken me?”

Devotional:

The following relates a personal story from Kristen:

Have you ever been in a place where you’re praying, believing, holding onto God’s promises, and yet… nothing seems to change? Maybe you’re in pain, whether physically, emotionally, or spiritually, and it feels like your prayers are just bouncing off the ceiling. If that’s where you are today, I want you to know—you’re not alone.

I know because I’m walking through it myself. This is my testimony… in progress.

For most of my life, I was incredibly healthy. But about six months ago, everything changed. I went to an allergist for routine testing, and shortly after, my body began reacting in ways I never expected. I developed intense burning sensations all over, like a constant fever that wouldn’t let up. Then came the pressure in my head—crushing, unrelenting, and impossible to ignore.

I have seen doctors, undergone treatments, and pursued healing. Some symptoms have improved—praise God!—but others still persist. And in my hardest moments, I’ve cried out, “God, why? Why haven’t You healed me yet?”

If you’ve ever felt like that, let me tell you what I’ve learned: there is power in praising God before the miracle comes. It’s easy to rejoice when the healing happens, when the breakthrough arrives, when the testimony is neatly wrapped up with a happy ending. But what about when you’re still in the middle of it? When you’re still in pain? When you wake up every day wondering if today will be the day things change?

That’s where faith becomes real.

God has been teaching me that I can’t wait until I feel better to praise Him. I can’t wait until my body is completely healed to declare His goodness. My worship, my faith, my trust in Him—none of those things are dependent on my circumstances. If I only praise Him when I see the outcome I want, then am I truly trusting Him?

Even Jesus, in His moment of deepest suffering, cried out, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” (Matthew 27:46). But even as He suffered, He surrendered. He trusted the Father’s plan, even when it didn’t make sense in that moment.

And so I’ve made a decision: I will trust God even in the unknown. I will praise Him even in the pain. I will believe that He is working even when I don’t see it yet.

Application:

  1. Refuse to let suffering define your faith. Your pain does not mean God has abandoned you. Hold onto His promises, even when you don’t understand.
  2. Find purpose in the pain. Instead of asking, “Why me?” ask, “God, what are You teaching me?” There is something He wants to reveal to you in this season.
  3. Speak life over yourself. The Bible says that “death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21). Choose to declare healing and hope, even when you don’t feel it yet.
  4. Draw closer to God. Pain has a way of drawing us into deeper intimacy with Him. Use this time to seek Him in ways you never have before. Consider starting with this guide to reading the Bible.

Prayer:

Father, I don’t always understand why I have to go through suffering, but I trust You. Even when the healing hasn’t come yet, even when I feel weak, I know that You are my strength. Help me to praise You not just for what You do, but for who You are. I surrender my pain, my questions, and my doubts to You. Thank You that You are with me in the storm, and that my healing—whether it comes today, tomorrow, or in eternity—is secure in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
